Whenever I'm around other women who cover full time, I'm so convicted that this is the path for me.
Yesterday evening I was invited to a wedding, and it's difficult to rock the headcovering at a wedding. At least it is for me. So, yesterday's outfit to the wedding was a dress from JCPenny that my husband had bought me that barely made it to my knees when standing. Bright orange/red and white floral design, and a bolero sweater fo the same red shade. Blue heels and a bright yellow head scarf for Church. After Church, I draped it around my neck and went to the reception.
Two other women were there who were "full timers" and boy, did I feel convicted. I tried, went to the bathroom and tried to tie my scarf behind my head and it ended up slipping off. My skirt was a bit too short and I was uncomfortable, even though it was longer than MANY of the skirts being worn by others. But who cares. It was still too short. But my husband bought me that dress and blah blah blah.
So, now I need to find my mad seamstress skills and find a way to make this dress work because it is super cute.
Should I wear it with pants under it? Should I shorten it and turn it into a blouse? Could I add a strip of some other fabric at the bottom to lengthen it? Could I cut a piece off the hem, add a strip of some other fabric and then add the hem back on for more of an "intentional" look? Will I forever ruin it if I start cutting into it? Is it already ruined simply by being a tad too short? Hmmmm. I know not.
I wish I knew what to do.
Meanwhile, I will keep pressing on and when my courage falters, I will remember the women I admire who simply do what they do and don't try to rock the high heels, the too-short dress, and the head scarf all on the same day.

Encouragement on the Journey

I find that Anna's Video over at Veiled Glory is a big challenge and a big encouragement. In it, she references Father Stephen Freeman's blog posts about a "One Story Universe" and challenges us to a "one woman revolution" of taking that step into living in the one story universe as witnesses of the God who is everywhere present and fillest all things.
This is the reason, really, that so many of us are called to wear a head covering all the time. I am, to be frank, the least among this group, what with my very public struggles and vascillations. But the calling is there and I am striving to be obedient.
I thought I'd point out that Father Stephen's most recent blog entry on The Secular Man and the Christian Man is also very apropos to this topic.
Go, read, and be encouraged, my friends!

Time to Give this a Re-Read
I'm feeling urged by the Lord to cover full time again. As anyone who has read this sporadic blog much at all knows, this is at times a joy for me and at other times a great, great struggle. Pray for me, dear friends.
